Dr Greta Ferguson
Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Greta Ferguson is a Consultant Psychiatrist (FRANZCP) who provides thoughtful, evidence-based psychiatric care for women across the lifespan. She has particular interests in depression, eating disorders, complex relational and emotional difficulties, and supporting women through significant life transitions, including pregnancy, the postpartum period, menopause, and other formative life events.
With subspecialty training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, including experience applying this approach with women during the perinatal period, Dr Ferguson brings a depth of psychological understanding to her broader clinical work. She combines psychotherapy with careful pharmacological management, and works with both short and longer term therapeutic goals depending on what each woman needs.
She also brings extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of eating disorders, having trained at a statewide tertiary eating disorders service in Melbourne. Her specialist training spanned adult community and inpatient psychiatry, an integrated perinatal service, child and adolescent psychiatry, consultation-liaison, and aged persons' mental health, across services in Victoria and New South Wales. During this time she collaborated with the Royal Women's Hospital psychiatry outpatient clinic to provide longer term psychotherapy to women in the perinatal period.
Dr Ferguson is committed to person-centred, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed care. She aims to create a space where women feel genuinely heard, and to work collaboratively towards outcomes that matter to each individual.
"I feel incredibly privileged to do this work. What I find most rewarding is getting to know each person’s unique story, helping them make sense of their experiences and working collaboratively towards recovery. I joined Lunea because I’m passionate about supporting women through the unique mental health challenges that can arise across different stages of life, and improving access to quality psychiatric care."
She remains actively engaged in psychiatric education and research. She holds an honorary lecturer position with the University of Melbourne, has taught and supervised medical students, interns and junior doctors, and has coordinated registrar tutorials in psychotherapy. Her published research spans psychological trauma in bipolar disorder, differentiation of manic and schizophrenic presentations in inpatient settings, and cultural continuity and suicide among Indigenous Australians.
