For GPs – How It Works

Simple and quick process to keep you informed

Step 1

Email the referral

Send a standard GP referral (PDF or scanned letter) to intake@lunea.com.au. Please include a request for a Medicare item 291 and the patient's phone and email address on your referral.

Step 2

The referral is reviewed

We inform the patient of the outcome within five business days

Step 3

Initial Video Appointment

We contact your client directly to arrange their first tele-psychiatry appointment.

Step 4

Communication

A clear management letter—diagnosis, meds, follow-up schedule— will be provided to you and your patient, usually within 2 week of the consult.

Services for Referrers

Lunea is pleased to support General Practitioners and fellow Psychiatrists in the management of their patients. Referrers are reminded to please include the patient's full medical and medication history in addition to the referral letter.

Comprehensive Assessment and Management Plans for GPs (Medicare Item 291): We partner with you to provide a detailed psychiatric assessment and a comprehensive management plan for your patient. This one-off consultation is designed to provide you with expert guidance to manage your patient's ongoing care for the next 12 months. Patients having already received a 291 at Lunea can return for a once-off review (Medicare billable item 293) within 12 months.

Second-Opinion Consultations for Psychiatrists (Medicare Item 296): We offer a valuable second-opinion service for colleagues seeking a fresh perspective on complex cases or assistance with specific diagnostic or treatment challenges associated with women’s mental health.
Referral of a perinatal patient for ongoing care (Medicare Item 296): We can provide ongoing care for perinatal patients who wish to be seen online.

Please note that for particularly complex presentations, more than one session may be required to formulate a comprehensive and effective management plan. If this becomes apparent during your review it will be discussed with you.
