Your Journey with Lunea: Simple Steps to Support
Navigating mental health care should be clear and straightforward.
At Lunea, we've designed our process to be as supportive and seamless as possible.

Step 1
Obtain a General Practitioner Referral
Ask your General Practitioner (GP) for a referral requesting either
-
a Psychiatric Assessment, or
-
a Medicare Item 291/92435 assessment (single-session review)
The referral must include your full name, date of birth, contact details, and the reason for referral. This helps our clinicians understand your needs from the outset.
Step 2
Send Your Referral to Lunea Intake
Once you have the referral, either ask your GP to email it to our intake team at intake@lunea.com.au or send it yourself - whichever is simpler for you.
Step 3
Initial Review & Scheduling
Upon receiving your referral, our administrative team will review it. We will then contact you within 5 business days to confirm receipt, gather any additional necessary information, and provide available appointment times and fees for your initial consultation.
Step 4
Your First Online Consultation
Your initial appointment will be an assessment conducted online via secure video call. This session typically runs for 50 minutes and allows your psychiatrist to gain a thorough understanding of your concerns, medical history, and goals for treatment. You will need to find a quiet, private space so you can speak freely. For more details about your first appointment, please review our Initial Consultation Checklist here.
Step 5
Collaborative Treatment Planning
Comprehensive Assessment Pathway (3 appointments)
Across the two follow-up sessions, your psychiatrist will refine your diagnostic formulation, review relevant information and discuss treatment recommendations. At the end of the pathway, you will either:
-
return to your GP with a comprehensive plan, or
-
discuss options for ongoing care at Lunea if appropriate.
Medicare Item 291/92435 assessment
Following the single consultation, your psychiatrist will prepare a detailed report and treatment plan for your GP, usually within 2 weeks.
Step 6
Ongoing Support & Follow-Up
Many patients continue their care with their GP using the management plan we provide.
For others, further psychiatric support may be helpful - your psychiatrist will guide you through suitable next steps.
If ongoing care at Lunea is appropriate, this will be discussed as part of your assessment process.
