Your Journey with Lunea: Simple Steps to Support
Navigating mental health care should be clear and straightforward.
At Lunea, we've designed our process to be as supportive and seamless as possible.

Step 1
Obtain a General Practitioner Referral
Ask your General Practitioner (GP) for a referral requesting a Medicare item 291 before your first session. The referral must state your full name, date of birth, contact details and the reason for the referral. With this information, our clinicians can understand your needs from day one.
Step 2
Send Your Referral to Lunea Intake
Once you have the referral, either ask your GP to email it to our intake team at intake@lunea.com.au or send it yourself - whichever is simpler for you.
Step 3
Initial Review & Scheduling
Upon receiving your referral, our administrative team will review it. We will then contact you within 5 business days to confirm receipt, gather any additional necessary information, and provide available appointment times and fees for your initial consultation.
Step 4
Your First Online Consultation
Your initial appointment will be an assessment conducted online via secure video call. This session typically runs for 50 minutes and allows your psychiatrist to gain a thorough understanding of your concerns, medical history, and goals for treatment. You will need to find a quiet, private space so you can speak freely. For more details about your first appointment, please review our Initial Consultation Checklist here.
Step 5
Collaborative Treatment Planning
During and following your assessment appointment, your psychiatrist will work collaboratively with you to develop a treatment plan. This may include medication management, therapeutic strategies, lifestyle recommendations, and coordination with your GP or other health professionals as needed. In addition, if you and your Lunea psychiatrist decide upon proceeding with a ‘Medicare item 291’, a report will be written and a copy sent to both you and your GP within 2 weeks.
Step 6
Ongoing Support & Follow-Up
Many women may not require further appointments and can carry out the management plan with the support of their GP. Some others may benefit from a period of specialist psychiatric care, and in that case, your psychiatrist at Lunea may provide ongoing follow-up consultations to monitor your progress and adjust your treatment.
