Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, we do need a referral from your GP to book the first appointment. Please ask your GP to include a request for a Medicare item 291.
We are specialised in providing assessments for adult women who have hormonal or pregnancy related mental health conditions such as Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), perimenopausal anxiety/depression, preparation for pregnancy and the perinatal period. The session will usually run for 45 minutes, unless otherwise communicated to you by our administration team.
Fees and rebates change annually, and the fee chart with the rebate amount will be sent to you upon acceptance of your referral. Please note that we are not a bulk billing clinic.
A deposit equal to 20 % of the consultation fee is payable when the booking is made. The booking interface will prompt you to register a valid Australian Visa, Mastercard, or American Express card. Card details are held in our PCI-DSS-compliant gateway - fully encrypted and never visible to staff.
Immediately after your appointment, the outstanding balance is automatically debited and an itemised tax invoice is emailed to you.
Cancellations made at least 72 hours in advance trigger an automatic refund of the deposit to the same card. Where a Medicare rebate applies, the amount is ordinarily credited to your nominated bank account within two to three business days once the claim is lodged.
Cancel more than 72 hours in advance for a full refund. After this a cancellation fee applies, which is equivalent to your deposit.
Any device with a camera, microphone and up-to-date Chrome, Edge or Safari. Smartphones work, but laptops or tablets give a steadier picture and are much preferred.

Psychiatric attendances outside hospital rarely attract private health rebates in Australia. Check your extras cover; a handful reimburse telepsychiatry gaps. Medicare rebates cover a significant portion of the cost.
It is a thorough assessment appointment and report including a detailed management plan. It is designed to be used in place of ongoing care by a psychiatrist (if it is appropriate for your GP to carry out the management plan with you). Some patients may prefer this option, as overall the costs might be lower than repeated specialist appointments. You can have a maximum of 1 of these Medicare 291 sessions per year per patient.
Additionally, you can return for a further once-off review (Medicare item 293) during the 12 months after your 291 appointment.
Please note, this type of appointment may not be suitable for all women, particularly if needing to see a psychiatrist more than once a year.
The Medicare Safety Net is a government program that helps reduce your out-of-pocket costs for out-of-hospital services—like psychiatry—once your annual expenses reach a certain limit.
In 2025, the thresholds are:
* $560.40 for concession card holders and families receiving Family Tax Benefit Part A
* $2,544.30 for all other individuals and families
Once you’ve reached your relevant threshold, Medicare may reimburse you up to 80% of the gap between the standard rebate and your psychiatrist’s fee.
For example, if a consultation costs $850 and the rebate is $405, the gap is $445. After reaching the Safety Net threshold, Medicare could refund you an additional ~$356, reducing your final out-of-pocket to under $100.
To benefit, ensure your family is registered as a group and that your details are up to date via myGov and Medicare. To do this, visit myGov and register yourself and your family.
