Dr Alanna Cockburn
Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Alanna Cockburn is a Consultant Psychiatrist who completed her medical training at the University of Oxford, UK, before working in London and then Australia, where she completed her psychiatry training through the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
She has a Master of Psychiatry from the University of Melbourne, where she previously worked as an Honorary Tutor. She works in the public sector as a ‘Consultation Liaison’ (CL) psychiatrist - the area of psychiatry exploring the complex relationship between the mind and the body.
Her CL Advanced Training included subspecialty training in psycho-oncology, eating disorders and perinatal psychiatry. She is currently enrolled in the RANZCP Psychotherapy Advanced Training certificate, with some capacity to see patients for psychodynamic psychotherapy.
Dr Cockburn is fascinated by the broad reach of psychiatry, in particular the relationship between the mind and the body, and between psychiatry, philosophy and literature. She draws on this wide range of interests to think creatively and curiously, seeking to understand her patients’ unique stories and what brings them for help at the time.
