At Lunea, we are committed to transparency regarding our fees. We are a private psychiatric practice and do not offer bulk-billing services. This schedule outlines our fees, payment policies, and information on Medicare rebates to help you understand the costs associated with your care.
Please note that the fees listed below are an indicative guide and vary based on the specific clinician. The exact fee for your appointment will be clearly visible on our online booking page before you confirm your booking.
Consultation Fees
Most comprehensive assessments take place over three appointments - an initial consultation and two follow-up sessions. This allows your psychiatrist time to understand your history, review relevant information, and provide thoughtful recommendations. At the end of this process, your psychiatrist will either return your care to your GP with a detailed letter or discuss options for ongoing treatment if appropriate.
The only exception is for eligible referrals under Medicare Item 291, which involves a single assessment and written report back to your GP.
Lunea is a cashless clinic, and payment is processed automatically via a secure card-on-file system.

Once-off Psychiatrist Consultation with Report (291 Assessment) | 50 min | $980 | 291 (in-rooms) / 92435 (video) | $455.60 | 20% at booking |
Review of Previous Assessment & Management Plan with Report (291 follow-up) | 30 min | $620 | 293 (in-rooms) / 92436 (video) | $284.80 | 20% at booking |
*A Note on MBS Item Numbers: The Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) item numbers listed are a guide only. The final item number is determined by your psychiatrist based on the actual service delivered (considering time, content, and complexity). This may differ from the label of the booked appointment, and the final fee may be adjusted accordingly.
**A Note on Medicare Rebates: Indicative rebates require a valid and current referral from a GP (valid 12 months) or specialist (valid 3 months). We submit claims on your behalf, and Medicare pays the rebate to your nominated bank account. Your true out-of-pocket cost may be lower once you reach the Extended Medicare Safety Net (EMSN) threshold.
Other Service Fees
Services provided outside of a standard consultation are billed separately and the fees will be confirmed by your clinician.
Prescriptions without a Consultation: A fee applies for script requests made between appointments. This service is at the clinician's discretion and requires appropriate clinical follow-up.
Complex Forms & Reports: Fees for completing complex documents (e.g., for insurers, workplaces, NDIS) are billed based on the time required, guided by Australian Medical Association (AMA) rates. A quote will be provided, and prepayment may be required.
Collateral Communication: Time spent communicating with third parties (e.g., family members, other providers) at your request outside of a consultation is billed privately. This will be discussed with you in advance.
ADHD Assessment
At Lunea, we don’t offer “ADHD-only assessments”. Every new patient receives a comprehensive psychiatric assessment over 3 appointments (extended initial appointment of 90 minutes and 2 x 30 minute follow-up appointments) that explores the full picture of your mental health.
When concerns about attention or executive function are present, your psychiatrist will include an ADHD evaluation as part of this broader process. This approach ensures that important overlapping conditions such as anxiety, trauma or hormonal changes are not overlooked, and that any treatment plan is accurate and safe.
For those with a pre-exisiting diagnosis, ADHD management with Lunea can only occur once we have completed our own comprehensive assessment. This ensures accuracy, safety and compliance with prescribing regulations.
What you need before starting:
A valid referral from your GP.
Recent physical health information from your GP, including blood tests and an ECG.
Written confirmation from your GP that they are willing to take over ongoing prescribing responsibilities (we provide a form for them to complete).
Screening questionnaires, which we will send you before your first appointment. Completing these is essential.
Wherever possible, gather collateral information such as school reports or previous assessments.
This structured process allows us to provide accurate documentation and develop a safe treatment plan. After the assessment is complete, ongoing care and prescribing responsibilities usually return to your GP.
Payment & Cancellation Policy
Our payment and cancellation policies are designed to be fair and to ensure we can offer timely appointments to all patients.
Payment Process:
A 20% deposit is automatically charged to your card on file when you book your appointment.
The remaining 80% balance is automatically charged at the scheduled start time of your appointment.
Cancellation Policy:
More than 72 hours' notice: To cancel or reschedule without penalty, you must provide at least 3 full days (72 hours) of notice. Your deposit will be fully refunded.
Less than 72 hours' notice: If you cancel or reschedule with less than 72 hours' notice, your deposit will be forfeited.
Important Information
Extended Medicare Safety Net (EMSN): We encourage all patients to register themselves and their families for the EMSN with Medicare. Once your family reaches the annual threshold in out-of-pocket medical costs, you will receive a higher rebate from Medicare for our services, significantly reducing your costs for the remainder of the calendar year.
Private Health Insurance: Australian private health funds generally do not cover outpatient psychiatrist consultations. Please check directly with your insurer, as policies vary.
Excluded Services: We do not provide services for matters related to Worker's Compensation or Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance.
